Obeying Family vs. Obeying God
Focus:
Scriptures:
|
Genesis 3:17 Acts 4:19 |
Genesis 1:26-31 Genesis 2:7-9, 15-18, 21-25 |
Genesis 3 Galatians 6:14 |
Points:
We must know where authority and submission begins and ends.
Is godliness a habit in you?
God took man, made him a steward, and gave him His Word.
Authority ordained by God must stay close to God in order to avoid being distracted.
If a leader tells you to do something contrary to God, you can disobey that leader.
Summary:
We must know where authority begins and ends when it comes to our submission. God is a god of order. According to Genesis, he set man and woman over the animals of the earth. After the fall, the wife was made subject to the husband. However, we are not to walk in foolish submission to anyone. The scriptures tell us if man tells us to disobey God in some way, we must obey God rather than man. Adam listened to Eve and ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil instead of obeying God. He should have obeyed God. Authority has to abide by God's rules, also. There are two types of authority or submission. Blind and naive submission is when we obey authority without knowing if their commands line up with God. On the other hand, an informed submitter knows God's voice and follows His voice when it's coming through His leaders. To know God's voice, we must make studying God's Word a habit in our lives. Holiness and sin both start from the inside. If we let sin grow in us, it will be hard for us to be habitually holy. We must stay close to God, or we will be distracted. The devil tries to distract us from studying God's Word with cares of this life. God's Word is above all, even family and marriage.
