The Attitude of Heresy

Focus:

Scriptures:

Matthew 18:7

1 Corinthians 11:19

Luke 17:1

1 Corinthians 2:10

Acts 20:30

Points:

  1. Heresy evolves into schisms.

  2. When you are opinionated, you practice your own beliefs.

  3. If we don't let Christ's mind be in us, we are worldly.

  4. Heresy in the church is dangerous.

  5. Past obedience does not justify present disobedience.

Summary:

If we stop studying the Word of God, we begin to judge things by our opinions.  This is the beginning of heresy.  Heresy is defined to be a choice, disunion, a party, or schism.  If heresy is present and keeps maturing in the church, it will eventually lead to those involved leaving that church when the leaders don't conform to them.  Heresy is a work of the flesh.  If we don't let Christ's mind be in us, we will walk according to our own opinions.  It is dangerous for us to follow our own opinion.  We must not lean to our understanding with our tenets.  Every day we must make a decision about who we will follow, ourselves or God.  Past obedience does not justify present disobedience.  We have a special gift, the mind of Christ.  It is left up to us if we want to be God's mouth piece.
