What Are You Doing Here?

Focus: Straying from God's authority

Scriptures:

Matthew 10:36

1 Corinthians 3:9, 12-20

Proverbs 27:8

Proverbs 21:16

Genesis 16:6-9

1 Samuel 22:5, 27:1-12

Points:

  1. God places the leaders and followers where He wants them in local churches.

  2. A man who has left his place is like a bird that has left its nest.

  3. We must not run from where God wants us.

  4. God is a jealous god.  Don't look to others to save you.

  5. If you look to your heart, you'll try to save yourself.

Summary:

There are numerous examples in the scriptures where the people of God tried to save themselves by going where God had not told them to go.  God does not make mistakes.  He plants leaders and followers in local churches.  Your nest is the place He plants you.  A man that strays from his nest is like a wandering bird that has left its nest.  If we move from the place we are suppose to be, we will be like a wandering star.  Some think God is telling them to leave a place and go to another when really, they are listening to their own heart.  God is not double-minded, we are.  David decided to flee to the Philistines for security from King Saul.  We can't trust in the enemy for security.  Instead of seeing the Philistines as an enemy, he saw them as a friend.  David was a man after God's heart that leaned to his own understanding.  God however intervened in the nick of time.  We shouldn't try to escape where God wants us.
